Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Füssen
The border town to Austria in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia lies on the Romantic Road and the Via Claudia Augusta. It is the second largest town in the Ostallgäu and invites you to take a stroll through the old town, which has many fountains, stores and a well-preserved town wall dating back to Roman times. Neuschwanstein Castle, Hohenschwangau Castle and Lake Forggensee, a reservoir fed by the Lech river, are in the immediate vicinity.
Bad Tölz
The town on the Isar, 50 km south of Munich, was named a “climatic health resort” in 1969 and was awarded the title of “Moorheilbad” in 2005. The craftsmen of the Middle Ages brought prosperity to the town, especially the raftsmen and the Kistler. The latter supplied the surrounding area as far as Munich with their colorfully painted furnishings, such as chests, boxes and four-poster beds.
Bad Tölz has also recently become famous for the TV series “Der Bulle von Tölz”.
Rosenheim
With around 60,000 inhabitants, it is the third largest city in Upper Bavaria and the county town of the district of Rosenheim, located to the south-east of Munich in the foothills of the Alps, at the confluence of the Inn and Mangfall rivers. As well as by car or train, the city can also be reached by bike, for example on the Mangfall Cycle Path, which connects Munich with Rosenheim. From here you can continue your cycle tour along the Inntalradweg to Passau.
München
Less than 100 km from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the city of Munich invites you to visit its beer gardens, museums and exhibitions and offers everything a big city has to offer in terms of culture and enjoyment of life. The English Garden, the Olympic Center and many other sights await a visit.
Innsbruck
Innsbruck is around 60 km south of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The impressive ski jump above the Tyrolean capital can be seen from afar. Majestically enthroned on the historic Bergisel. The Olympic flame was lit here at the 1964 and 1976 Olympics. Today, the redesigned ski jump is an architectural highlight. The Golden Roof in the historic city center is also particularly worth seeing.
