In the Bavarian foothills of the Alps near Lake Kochelsee lies the Benediktbeuern Monastery, one of the oldest Benedictine monasteries in Bavaria. The former Benedictine abbey was founded in 725, and the baroque monastery complex was built in 1669. In 1803, the monastery was dissolved as part of secularization. However, in 1930, it was revived by the Salesians of Don Bosco and developed into a center for religious education, science, and education.
